I’m Salaama Journey
My work lives at the intersection of storytelling, community, and the arts. I founded Mérida Collective Magazine and Mérida Collective Community to elevate underrepresented voices and foster meaningful relationships across cultures, and B1 Entertainment to help emerging artists grow into confident performers.
My life is a mosaic of experiences. I’ve worked across Fortune 500 companies, earned a PhD in Philosophy, and spent years exploring how culture, art and education shape the way we live and create.
Today, my work centers cultural stewardship, education, and ethical community-building, with a focus on supporting Black and Mexican communities, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and families building lives beyond their home countries.
What began as a magazine has evolved into Mérida Collective Community, a trusted network of more than 400 members. Together, we bring families, creatives, educators, organizers and cultural workers into conversation around belonging and meaningful contribution.
That same commitment to nurturing talent led me to create B1 Entertainment. As a classically trained musician, I provide emerging artists in Mérida with professional guidance and a clear path for creative development.
For me, music is about more than technique. It’s about cultivating the discipline and presence needed to command a stage. Whether I’m producing a showcase or coaching a singer, I help artists transform their skills into polished performances.
At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: strong communities grow through honesty, shared responsibility, and genuine belonging. Through storytelling, education, and the arts, I create spaces where people can contribute, build lasting relationships and grow across borders.
